What Is CGHS?

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) provides medical cover to central government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. From OPD consultations to major surgeries, everything is priced at fixed, pre-approved rates, so billing stays transparent across every city and hospital.

Each procedure has a fixed "package rate" that includes the surgery, anaesthesia, OT charges, and a few days of hospital stay. That's why understanding the CGHS rate card matters — it helps you check whether your hospital is billing you fairly.

How CGHS Rates Are Decided

Each procedure can have up to 9 different rates, because three factors combine:

127 New Private HCOs Empanelled Under CGHS Hyderabad – July 2026

In a fresh order dated 6 July 2026, the CGHS Hyderabad office (under the Directorate General of CGHS, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) empanelled 127 additional private Health Care Organizations (HCOs). This is separate from – and in addition to – the rate list above, and it directly affects where you can actually go for cashless or reimbursable treatment.

Latest HFR Registry Breakdown

Separate from the July 2026 order, CGHS also maintains a live Health Facility Registry (HFR) of private centres in the Hyderabad region. As of the current registry, 96 private centres carry an active HFR ID:

Most registrations run on a five-year validity, largely dated from mid-2026 through to 2031, after which the hospital needs to renew with CGHS to remain empanelled. Geographically, this registry is concentrated in Hyderabad city, with sizeable numbers also under Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts – both part of the wider Hyderabad metro area.

Good to know: The 127-HCO list from the July 2026 office memo and this 96-centre HFR registry are two different snapshots – one is a formal empanelment order, the other is the live facility registry. Facilities Available Under CGHS

Beyond hospital admission and procedure rates, CGHS is designed to cover a beneficiary’s full care journey:

• OPD treatment at Wellness Centres, including issue of medicines
• Specialist consultation at Polyclinics/Government hospitals and at CGHS-empanelled hospitals, after referral by CGHS
• OPD/indoor treatment at government and empanelled hospitals

• Cashless facility for treatment at empanelled hospitals and diagnostic centres, for pensioners and other identified beneficiaries
• Reimbursement of expenses for treatment availed in government/private hospitals under emergency, or specific treatment advised by a government specialist or a private HCO specialist, duly endorsed by the CMO/MO of the Wellness Centre
• Reimbursement for hearing aids, artificial limbs, and appliances, after obtaining prior permission
• Family Welfare, Maternity and Child Health services
• Medical consultation and dispensing of medicines under AYUSH – Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani and Siddha

How to File a Reimbursement Claim

If you took emergency treatment at a non-empanelled hospital, you can claim reimbursement from CGHS. Here are the steps:

• Collect your documents — Keep the original bills, discharge summary, prescription, and a copy of your CGHS card safe.
• Fill the claim form — Get the prescribed CGHS reimbursement form from your Wellness Centre or download it from the website.
• Submit at your Wellness Centre — Submit the form and documents at your registered CGHS Wellness Centre, and make sure you get a receiving copy.
• Wait for verification — A medical officer will verify your claim against the rate list.
• Receive the approved amount — After verification, the approved amount is transferred to your bank account.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don't get an elective (non-emergency) surgery done at a non-empanelled hospital without prior permission — the reimbursement can get rejected.
